Los Perdonados

Soldiers Of The Cross

  A Brief History

Soldiers Of The Cross (SOTC), is a Christian Motorcycle Ministry  based in El Paso, Texas.  The ministry was founded by Allen Nay and Norman Rodriguez in June of 1997.  Although Norman is no longer a part of this ministry, Allen continues in the efforts of the SOTC towards our primary goal of taking the Message of the Cross and the Ministry of Jesus Christ to our brothers within our biker community and the world at large, thereby expanding the Kingdom of God.   A board of seven officers governs this ministry.  These men are committed to providing the leadership necessary to shape the nature and character of this ministry as it grows.

Expanding The Kingdom or “ETK”, which is one of the patches we wear on our colors, is accomplished in many ways.  Just as Jesus walked among the people of His time, our goal is to take His principals and practices to the people of our time.  One of the ways we did this was through our Dyno ministry.  We had a Dynojet Model 200 Dynamometer that was housed in an enclosed trailer.  This ministry effort was carried out by Allen Nay and his wife Dona.  They were on the road on a full time basis traveling to different places around the country.  The Dyno trailer also housed our ministry tent that was set up every time the Dyno was run.  The tent and Dyno was a drawing point that gave us an opportunity to provide information about Jesus Christ and the ministry of the SOTC.  The Dyno ministry supported many of the events that the different SOTC chapters supported.  In January of 2000 this ministry was discontinued.

Another outreach function of the ministry is via the internet.  Our web site provides a host of information that will enable a visitor to see what this ministry is all about.  It will also provide a way for a visitor to come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.  There is also information on coming events and photos of those events.

All of SOTC chapters sponsor or conduct Bible studies and times of fellowship and encouragement.  We come from many different walks of life but have the common Blood of Jesus running through our veins.  For this reason, encouragement through times of struggle and a basis for accountability these fellowship times are very necessary as we try to “walk our talk”.

We love to ride and do so every opportunity we get.  But we ride with purpose.  Our colors are a standard that says “Jesus Is Lord” and we carry that message everywhere we go.  Some people are offended by this standard.  Others are touched by the ministry of the Holy Spirit.  Our responsibility is to lift that standard high and let God be God.

The ministry of the SOTC is currently developing relationships with local churches and offering our assistance as ministers of the Gospel Of Jesus Christ.  All of our ministry members are encouraged to be in pursuit of being ordained and licensed within their particular domination or fellowship.  There is a need within the church for this type of ministry and our ministers need to be knowledgeable of God’s Word and be ready to assist local pastors who may not have the experience of ministering to the bikers within their church.  We also feel that at some point and time in the future we will establish a church that will provide a place for people that may not feel comfortable in a typical church setting to come and feel that they belong.  Unfortunately, many of us have been run out of the church because of the way we dress, the length of our hair ( or lack thereof ), our tattoo’s and our preferred mode of transportation.  I think if Jesus Christ was walking amongst us today, He would look like many of us, and He would probably ride a rigid pan head that left a puddle of oil every where He stopped.  He would probably bend down, dip His finger in that oil, heal the sick and set the captive free!!!!!!!!

So, that’s what the Soldiers Of The Cross is all about.  There are many other Christian motorcycle groups across this great country and we should all have similar goals.  We desire to network with these groups and form a bond of brotherhood that will serve the motorcycle community well.  We have been called to be Sons Of The Most High and that means that we get along with all the other Sons Of God.  We desire fellowship with other ministry efforts and are always open to participate as co-labors and invite any ministry effort to join us in any event that we are supporting.

UPDATE:

Los Perdonados

At the 2003 annual business meeting of the Soldiers of the Cross it was decided that we needed a distinct and ministry specific name that separated our ministry from the many different organizations of the same name.  Prior to the founding of this ministry, the name search we did revealed only a few similar names and only one of them were motorcycle related.  Now, the internet is crowded with Soldiers of the Cross.

Just what is "Los Perdonados"?  This is a Spanish name which can be translated as The Forgiven Ones or those who have been pardoned.  At the very foundation of our belief is that as a result of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, our sins have been forgiven and our past not held against us.  The ministry of the Soldiers of the Cross has been and will continue to be one of showing those who are lost and hurting that they too can experience the same forgiveness as we have.  Thus the name "Los Perdonados" is very specific and appropriate.  This name will separate us form the organizations that chose to call themselves Soldiers of the Cross.

We will continue to be Soldiers of the Cross and continue to wear a front patch with that name.  However, our back patch has changed.

A name change does not come easy and we have not taken this step without much prayer and consideration.  Los Perdonados, Jesus Por Vida
